Julianna Denney Sauber: Cortisol, Menopause and Why Pushing Harder Backfires for Women
If you have been told that the solution to stress, fatigue, or weight gain is to simply push harder, this session will challenge that idea. Female physiology responds to stress very differently than male physiology, and the hormonal shifts of menopause can make the body even more sensitive to cortisol. In this presentation, Julianna Denney Sauber explains how cortisol influences metabolism, weight, digestion, and pain levels in women. You will learn why intense exercise can sometimes worsen hormonal stress and how chronic stress can trigger what is often referred to as cortisol steal. You will leave the session with a clearer understanding of how your stress response works and practical, science based strategies you can use to support your hormones, protect your energy, and work with your body rather than against it.

Modern Families, Ancestral Skills Part 1: Raising Families Naturally – Real-World Solutions
Led by Courtney Sullivan, with Sarah Rose. In a world filled with noise, conflicting advice, and unrealistic expectations, raising a healthy family can feel overwhelming. In this conversation, Courtney Sullivan leads a grounded discussion on practical approaches to natural living—rooted in common sense, experience, and a deep trust in the body’s ability to heal. Together with Sarah Rose, we explore how to navigate everyday challenges, from simple home-based remedies to integrating homesteading into modern life, without falling into the trap of “doing it all.” This session also challenges the myth of total self-sufficiency. True resilience isn’t about isolation—it’s about knowing your strengths, recognizing your limits, and building supportive systems around your family. If you’ve ever felt unsure where to start, or pressured to do more than is realistic, this conversation will help you reconnect with your intuition and take meaningful, manageable steps forward. About Courtney Sullivan Courtney Sullivan is a small-scale regenerative farmer and founder of a direct-to-consumer diversified farm. Through her work, she helps families reconnect with food, land, and practical skills that support healthy, sustainable living. Her approach blends common-sense solutions, traditional practices, and a deep respect for working with nature rather than against it.

Modern Families, Ancestral Skills Part 2: From Soil to Table – Getting Started with Real Food
Led by Sarah Rose, with Courtney Sullivan. Accessing truly healthy food shouldn’t feel complicated—but for many, it does. In this session, Sarah Rose leads a practical and inspiring conversation on overcoming the barriers to growing, sourcing, and understanding real food. Drawing from her work as an herb farmer and educator, and joined by Courtney Sullivan’s hands-on farming experience, this discussion explores what it actually takes to get started—from understanding soil and land, to gardening, foraging, and small-scale food production. Grounded in both skill-building and a deeper philosophy of stewardship, this session highlights how reconnecting with the land can transform not only what we eat, but how we live. Whether you’re starting with a backyard garden or looking to take the next step toward greater self-sufficiency, this conversation will help you bridge the gap between intention and action. About Sarah Rose Sarah Rose is the founder of Samad Gardens Initiative, an herb farm and educational platform dedicated to cultivating self-sufficiency through regenerative growing, herbal medicine, and community-based learning. Through apprenticeships, classes, and partnerships across the Northeast, she is helping raise a new generation of farmers grounded in both skill and purpose.
